What is search engine optimization?
Search engine optimization is one of the most powerful advertising methods in history. It is one of the most sought after website marketing strategies, and if you want to be a competitor in the internet marketing world, it is a subject that deserves your full attention.
The search engines are use by billions of people each day. Just about everyone used the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Ask. They help people find what they are looking for online.
When you have something that needs exposure, getting it onto a website and then getting that website listed in the major SE’s is a very effective way to get it as much exposure and traffic as it needs.
Optimizing your website is all about pleasing the search engines. They are trying to provide the best results for their users, and they have some pretty strict rules that you must follow.
But the good news is that not very many people understand and play by the rules, so if you do you can tap into a huge traffic source.
There are five basics of a search engine optimization rules that you need to follow…
#1- Using the Right Site Layout You want your pages to get found by the engines. But they will not find pages that are more than two clicks away from your home page. Use the three tier website structure to ensure that all of your pages are only two clicks away so that the engines will find them all.
#2-Use the Right Keywords There are over 100 million active websites online, so the competition can be pretty stiff. You need to find noncompetitive keywords to use for your webpages so that you can win them rather easily. The less competition the better, so using the right keywords is a must.
#3-Don’t Keyword Spam A very common mistake among new webmasters is thinking that stuffing keywords into a page will get the best results. The SE’s can easily tell when they someone is trying to manipulate them, and this does more harm than good. Always play by the rules and you will have much better results.
#4-Don’t Skimp on the Content The content of a website is the information that is provided throughout it’s webpages. Content is how the search engine evaluate websites, so the more of it you have, and the more interesting it is for you visitors, the better your overall results at the engines will be.
#5-Inbound Links The last critical aspect of search engine optimization is getting other websites to link to yours. This tells the SE’s that you have a credible website, and it is therefore a must. You can do this by exchanging links with other webmasters who have related but noncompetitive websites, or you can use website directories and article directories.
