Starting a Small Home BusinessThe 5 rules for starting a small home business successfully. Starting a small home business was the greatest thing that I have ever done. After working in many dead end jobs to barely scrape by, I thought ”there must be a better way! There truly is a better way to earn a living than spending 40-60 hours a week at a job that you hate, and the answer is starting your own home based business. As you may know, the success rate of home business seekers is not high, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot succeed. It just means that you need to play smarter than the rest of the crowd. I want to share 5 rules for starting a home business, rules that will help you avoid the mistakes made by many, and put you on the path that leads to entrepreneurial success. #1-Set Goals If your goals are vague you will have a more difficult time than if you have clear, concrete goals. Goals offer motivation and they will give you the energy and enthusiasm needed to pursue them. ”I want more money” is not a goal, but ”Within 12 months I will be earning $100,000 per year” is a goal. Make them clear and precise, and make them big enough so that you get excited thinking about them. #2-Make a Plan Before you get started with any home business opportunity, you will want to create a plan or a schedule of when you will invest your time. It will take daily effort to build your business, especially in the beginning months where you are getting the ball rolling. Allocate a certain time each day to invest in your business, and make a commitment to use that time wisely. #3-Ignore the Hype As you may well be aware, the internet is full of hype. There are way too many scams and get-rich-quick-schemes that send people down the inevitable path to failure. You do not need to be one of them. Ignore the hype and do your homework. Investigate possible opportunities before getting started to ensure that you invest your time and money into a reliable and profitable opportunity, and not just a crappy scam. #4-Master Your Marketing Methods After choosing your business program, you will want to decide on the particular marketing methods that you will utilize to promote it. There are many methods that you can use, but the key is to choose one (or a couple max) and master them. It is better to do one extremely well then to do several at a mediocre level. Choose a method of marketing that seems suitable for you, and then give your fullest effort to learn how to utilize that method with optimum results. #5-Take It Step By Step You will not ever be able to plan everything out from the very beginning, so do not waste too much time in trying. Especially if you are new to the home business arena, you will have a lot to learn. Just do what you can with what you have, and as you take daily steps, the path will unfold for you. The real key is persistence. Many people quit when they were just around the corner from success. Things may flourish when you least expect them, so never stop moving forward until your goals have been reached.
