Choosing the best search engine web directory to list your website for better SEO and traffic
There are literally thousands of search engine web directory websites online that you can utilize to increase your SEO.
With so many available, how can you choose which ones to utilize?
There are few things to consider before making the right choice.
One is whether you are going to utilize free directories, reciprocal directories, or paid directories.
Each of these has its benefits and its drawbacks.
Free directories are obviously good because they do not cost any money.
The only problem is that you will need to spend time to find quality directories.
Many of the free ones are nothing more than link farms that will do nothing to improve your link popularity.
Look for free directories that list only quality websites and not ones that are overcrowded with crappy listings.
You will also want to see how many pending reviews they have.
Many free directories are so backed up with submissions that it can take several months or longer for your site to get reviewed.
If your search engine optimization campaign is time sensitive, you’ll want to find ones that will list your website sooner.
Reciprocal directories are another way to go.
While they are free, they require you to put a link back to them on your website.
This is not optimal because you want to be careful about the websites that you link to.
And if you want to have good optimization, you need anywhere from 30 to 40 inbound links, and that is just a minimum.
If you only use reciprocal directories you will have to plaster your webpages with links to the directories, and that may take away from the quality of your site.
Your last choice is to use paid directories.
Pay directories are superior in every way.
Usually it will take only a couple of days before your website is reviewed, and they do not require you to put a link to them from your website, and they have stricter submission guidelines and standards which gives them higher credibility at the search engines.
This means that links from some of the paid directories are more powerful than from free and even reciprocal ones.
The only downside is that each submission will cost you anywhere from $10.00 to $300.
If you have a large advertising budget this is not going to be a problem, but if you do not have several hundred dollars to spend to increase your link popularity, you’ll need to spend your time finding high quality free and reciprocal directories.
As a rule of thumb you should try and locate directories that have a Google PR of 5 or higher, and an Alexa traffic ranking of 100,000 or less.
This is just a guide, and you always want to use your personal judgment when choosing the right directories to list your website.
