What do I mean by “when you site is ready?” Well unless your website contains some very essential SEO ingredients, your results will be dismal if any. You need to build the foundation before the traffic can come.
You may already have a great website that is ready to go, and if so go ahead and submit it. But if not, here are some things that you will want to ensure.
Keywords Sure every website uses keywords (at least they should be) but not all webmasters make it a priority to find the more profitable keywords. Profitable keywords are low in competition yet still have an adequate amount of demand. Unless you choose keywords that are relatively low in competition, you site may never reach the top.
Pages Analyzed The Search Engines have some very definite components that they look for in a website page. This ensures quality as well as relevancy. Focus each page on a keyword, a couple of them at most. Use it in a headline, the metal title and description, and about 1 time for each 100 words of content on your page.
Site Layout The search engines will not be able to find your webpages that are more than two clicks away from your homepage. Do not lose pages and traffic because they get buried to deep into your site. Keep every page no more than two clicks from the homepage and you will be fine.
Get Some Links If you do not have any inbound links, that is going to need to be done ASAP. The engines use link popularity, the number of links a website has pointing to it from other sites, as a way to rank sites. You need to secure at least 30 inbound links. You can do this with article marketing, free or paid directories, or exchanging links with other webmasters. This is a must before search engine submitting.
Content Content is king at the search engines, in fact it is the most important thing. No matter how much content you have on your site, you can have more. Adding fresh, unduplicated content (that you create yourself) on a regular basis is key to ensuring long term, ever increasing search engine traffic.
