You need direction in your life if you ever hope of getting any place worthwhile.
And you do not need to live a stagnant life, but rather you can propel your self by deciding where you want to go and then motivating yourself to get there.
I want to share 10 powerful actions for setting goals and staying motivated that I learned from a great book called the psychology of winning by Denis Waitley.
#1- what are your lifetime goals? What you stand for, what do you want your children to tell their children about you? Jot down a one page brief.
#2- what are your priority goals in groups of years. For the next five years write one major goal in each of the eight following areas: career, physical, family, personal attitude, financial, public service, educational, and entertainment.
#3- list your top priority goals for the next year using the same eight categories as in number two above. After reviewing your progress for this year’s goals on December 31 or January 1, set your annual goals for the next year.
#4- use a large desktop calendar and set your time priority goals for next month. What would you do, where will you go, with whom will you communicate during the next 30 days in order to achieve your annual goals?
#5- use of pocket week at a glance type calendar and set activities for next week that will help achieve your monthly goals. Review it and check off accomplishment each morning and evening.
Use a single page of paper and set the most important goals of all-your daily goals for tomorrow. Write down at least 10 priority projects for tomorrow of the close of each working day. Review in just before you go to bed and early the following morning.
As on a grocery shopping list, checked off each item as accomplished and carry over into the following day those that were not completed.
#6- make special effort to sit down and write your financial gain a plan which will fuel your personal growth cycle.
#7- for reaching your goals, assemble support material, news articles, books, tapes, pictures cut out of magazines, consumer reports, cost estimates, color swatches, samples, etc. Review these often.
#8- review your goals with winners-and experts who have proven records of success and actually accomplishing what you have set out to do. Differentiate between those who want to sell you and those who are sincere in wanting to help you.
#9- for best results in goal achieving use these basic rules: A-set short range goals(day, week, month, six month)
B-set lower level goals(relatively easy to accomplish)
C-set incremental goals(little by little, part of the big objective)
D-get group reinforcement
E-ceremonialize the achievement(certificates, reward, dinner, Trip, recreation, etc.)
by following this plan you will set a clear direction in your life, and most importantly, it will be one of your choosing.
You can end up anywhere you choose, as long as the destination is clear and the path is precise.
And when you know exactly where it is you want to end up, you will have a natural source of motivation and goals that will allow you to get there, and beyond.
