Billionaires and Millionaires help people in great ways
Billionaires and millionaires assist other people in really terrific ways. There are two general ways that I see the super successful and wealthy people of the world help others.
One way takes an active part one them, and that is philanthropy. And this is more so the case now that it ever has been before.
Obviously the idea of giving to charities and non profit organizations is not a new concept, but it has made major leaps within the past 10 years.
Before 1997, contributions from the wealthiest people was never more than tens of millions of dollars. Not that this isn’t a huge amount, it is just nowhere near the amounts being given today.
The new trend, which Princeton University professor Peter Swinger says is the ‘new golden age of philanthropy, was triggered into growth in 1997 when Ted Turner made the single largest donation ever, a whopping $1 Billion dollars.
This one act of giving started a new trend, one that seems is almost a competition, one that no doubts has its benefits for the receivers.
How high is the record now? Well in 2006 Bill Gates and his wife Melinda had built up their charitable foundation to a staggering $28 Billion dollars. But that recode was soon broken later that year.
Super wealthy investor Warren Buffet set the new level by pledging over $40 Billion dollars, 85% of his overall net worth. Most of this money went to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
Indeed billionaires help out thousands of people all around the world through their charitable donations. And in this case, when the billionaires compete, it is the less fortunate who benefit in beautiful ways.
