Marshall Field
Marshall Field's Marshall's stores have become a household name, yet many people do not know the man behind the stores. Field was an incredibly successful entrepreneur who has secured the 10th position in the list of histories richest Americans.
He began his career as a stock boy in a Chicago retail emporium. This position would not long hold Marshall, who had vision and determination, two of the most essential traits of an entrepreneurial success.
While he is widely known for his retail stores, which are still thriving today, the greater portion of his wealth came from another very successful business that he started.
While retail made him famous, wholesale made him rich. He had a dry goods wholesale business that proved to be extremely lucrative.
It was located at a prime location. The business was located at the railroad and shipping hub of Chicago, and that location combined with the right business made him wealthy.
So how much wealth did Field accumulate? By the end of his life in the beginning of the 19th century, Field was worth over $60 Billion dollars. But that was just the money he made while alive, his retail legacy still continues.
