What do you want your life to look like in a year, 5 years, 10 years? I would be willing to bet that the majority of home business seekers try and get started before they ever have any real goals. People are always underestimating the value of goals, and this lack of proper goal setting is a major hindrance for people wanting to improve their life. Goals give direction to our lives. They allow us to choose what we want to achieve and then to make a plan for its fulfillment. Goals give us meaning and purpose, and they can be a great source of motivation that will help us do what needs to be done. But goal setting is something that many people do not understand how to do effectively. For instance, I have personally asked numerous home business seekers, people who were just getting started, what their goals were for their home based business venture. I got the same vague answers from almost all of them. I want to earn more money! I want to get rich! I want to be financially free without having to work! Sure these are things that a home business can help you attain, but they are in no way goals. Goals, the real kind of goals that have power, are clear, precise, and definite. A goal is a definite target that you are aiming for. The more clearly you define your goals, the more likely you will be to reach them. For starters, clear home business goals are much more motivating that vague ones. For example, I want to be rich! is not nearly as motivating as I will be earning $30,000 per month within the next 12 months. Unless your goals are clear and definite, you will not likely pursue them with very much dedication, enthusiasm, and persistence. So before breaking ground on your new home business, take the time to clearly define what you plan to achieve in the next year, 5 years, or even 10 years. Think big thoughts and do not sell yourself short by setting mediocre goals. Decide what you truly want to achieve, set a deadline for its accomplishment, and then get started by taking the first step. I do want to share a great little tip that I learned after reading about every success book on the market. The procedure is rather simple and may not seem to be very important, but it is very powerful. Start by writing your goals on a piece of paper. Write them out clearly, using as much detail as possible. It will also be beneficial for you to write them in the present tense as if they have already been achieved. Then simply keep that piece of paper with you wherever you go. Take it out several times throughout your day and read your home based business goals out loud or in your head, visualizing yourself having already achieved them. And be sure to review them each morning after waking up and right before going to sleep at night. This simple act will deepen your desire and motivation to reach your goals, it will keep your attention on them so that your mind is always working on ways to make them happen, and you will always be aware when new opportunities for their fulfillment appear. The home based business world has many more failures than successes, but you do not need to join the majority.
