Rather it happens only when a site is build in accordance with the search engines requirements. The engines main focus is on service their customers, as should be the case with any type of business. But the engines customers are not webmasters trying to get listed. Their real customers are the users of the engines, the people who do searches to find the information that the need or want. Because of this, the engines are strict about the sites that get to the top. Websites that are made only to try and make money, wither plastered with banners, ads, and affiliate links, are not going to make it very high in the listings. The websites that do make it to the top are the ones who are of value to the people who find them. Content rich informational websites are the ones that are most commonly found at the head of the list at the major engines like Google, Live, Ask, and Yahoo. This should ultimately be the priority of webmasters who are in need of a major boost in traffic. Rather than trying to trick and manipulate the engines (all of which is a complete waste of time) your time is much better spend adding keyword rich content to your site, and increasing the number of information based pages that it has. Content is the life-blood, the very foundation on which a seo website is built. Without a lot of quality content, your site will never make it very far. As they say build it and they will come. Build a content rich website and the traffic will come. On top of adding content there are two other high priority tasks for effective seo; attaining inbound links and finding low competition keywords. Back links signal to the engines that a site is respected by others. This is a huge bonus when it comes to ranking. Getting 30-40 quality in-pointing links is a very helpful thing to do. I know that I already mentioned using a lot of keyword rich content is important, but using the right keywords is also critical.
