Well if you ask 100 people what their goals are, you will most likely get 100 different answers. Goals themselves are different for each individual, but the definition of a goal is universal. A goal is a target, a purpose, a worthy ideal that you are trying to realize. For some people their target is money, for others it is success, for others it is health, for others it is winning an award, inventing a new creation, or writing a great story. While every goal is different in its own respect, every goal is the same in the fact that it gives direction for the person who has it. And that is the biggest role that goals play in our lives. They give us direction, they offer meaning to everything that we do. Everything in the universe, by nature, wants to expand and grow. Humans are no exception, and we find our greatest happiness when we are expanding, growing, developing, and making progress toward a worthy goal. Without goals life can feel stagnant, worthless, and depressing. If you do not know where you are headed, will you be very excited to get there? Probably not, and that is why goals are needed for a fulfilling life. It is not always the reaching of a goal that brings the most pleasure, although the rewards can be very satisfying. But rather, some of the best times that you will enjoy is when you are giving completely of yourself to make your dreams become your reality. No matter what you are doing, if it has a reason, a greater end in sight, you will find meaning and pleasure in it. And of course, when you decide on where you want to go in life, you will have a much greater chance at actually getting there. Decide what you want, make the commitment to get it, and then take daily action toward that end.
