Bill Gates

The richest living American at this time is Bill Gates. Since his birth in 1955, Gates has revolutionized an industry and built an immense fortune of $121.6 Billion dollars. This has landed him in the number four spot in the richest men in American history.

Ever since the 1980’s he has completely dominated the software industry. He was a computer enthusiast from an early age, and he dropped out of Harvard during his sophomore year to pursue his own software business.

Having the technological know-how is only one part of his success. The other part was his very competitive business practices.

Competitive may not be the right word; he was fiercely so. His cutthroat business practices gave him a bad reputation in the software industry, and he was reviled by his competition.

Making his fortune is a great story, but equally fascinating is how he spends it. Bill and his wife Melinda have revolutionized the philanthropic world. They have created the Gates Foundation, an organization that provides funds to increase health and prosperity all around the globe.

The Gates Foundation had reached its pinnacle in 2006 when it was worth over $30 Billion dollars. This great organization then more than doubled with the single biggest donation ever, $35 Billion from super investor Warren Buffet.

Gates is a prime example of how vision, passion, and the desire to reach the top can propel people to do extraordinary things.
