Analyzing Website Traffic. Getting the Most Out of Internet Marketing
Some helpful tips for analyzing website traffic and getting more web site visitors from internet marketing.
How is your web site traffic? You do know, don’t you? Knowing how your website is performing is a critical aspect of internet marketing.
In all reality, having an online business is all about traffic. Traffic is what sustains, builds, and expands a business. Therefore maximizing traffic is a must, and to maximize it you must first begin analyzing it.
Analyzing website traffic can be a little confusing until you get the hang of it. There are three things to look at when viewing your traffic, which can usually be done through your web host, or if not you can see your sites performance at Alexa.com.
The three things to look at are your unique visitors, your total visits, and your page views. These are all important for their own unique reasons, and knowing when you have a weak link in the chain will let you correct the problem and boost your overall site performance.
Unique Visits The number of unique visitors that you have are the number of first timers to your website. This is tracked by the number of visits you get from unique IP addresses. This can be viewed as the most important because it reflects the amount of traffic you are generating from your marketing and/or search engine optimization. Plus, until you have enough unique visitors, the other two components will have little value.
Total Visits This number is the total number of visits to your website from both unique visitors as well as return visitors. Return traffic can play a major role in the overall success of a website. Even with a steady flow of unique visitors you can dramatically boost your overall traffic by developing many repeat visitors. Generally this will have to do with the quality of your website content, so if you total visits are not much more than your unique ones, you may want to consider some revisions. Adding a blog with an RSS feed is another terrific way to generate more return traffic.
Page Views The number of page views that you website receives will always be the biggest of them all, and hopefully it is much bigger. The reason for this is that you want to keep people on your site for as long as possible. This enables you to generate more page views which is key if you start charging for advertising on your site. It is also important for search engine optimization reasons. The engines monitor how long people spend on your site, so the more page views the better. If you are lacking in this area, possibly consider revising your content, your pictures and ads, as well as the flow of your site from one page to another.
