There is a huge difference between positive thinking and wishful thinking. Wishful thinking is not very useful for making any drastic life changes, but a positive attitude is. Therefore a positive attitude is not wishful thinking… but rather so much more.
The difference is a matter of belief. Belief, or expectation, is what really determines the circumstances and situations that we attract into our lives. When you truly expect the best out of every situation, when you have a deep feeling of faith that the good things are coming into your life…. that is a real positive attitude.
Many people who decide to adopt a positive attitude barely touch the surface. They may act very confidently and optimistically on the outside, but inside they are still continuing in their old negative thought patterns.
Real positive thinking is a feeling. When you have truly adopted a positive attitude as your dominant attitude, you will not just be putting on a show. You will feel a deep sense of power within yourself. You will feel confident, optimistic, and you will truly and honestly expect the best.
Getting to this point takes practice and some work. It does not just happen overnight. Thinking is habitual, and if you have been thinking negatively for the better part of your life, which the majority of people do, you will need to dedicate yourself to changing your attitude from the inside out.
As you well know if you have ever tried to break a bad habit, it can be pretty difficult. Breaking out of your negative thought habits and into a more positive, constructive mental attitude is well worth the time and effort that it takes.
Repetition is the way to overcome a bad habit and replace it with a more positive one. Any time a negative thought comes in, which can easily be realized by the way that you feel (worry, stress, fear, insecurity), immediately replace it with a more positive one. You will know when you have successfully shifted your attitude by the way that you feel. When you start to feel good rather than badly, you will know that your attitude is where it needs to be.
At first this can be difficult because you may have many negative thoughts coming in, but the more you replace them with positive ones, the less the negative ones will appear.
As I said above, a positive attitude is not wishful thinking but so much more. It is belief and expectation of the best, no matter what situations the world throws at you.
And how can you know when are truly thinking positively? By the way that you feel. When you have successfully developed a real positive attitude you will feel good all the time. You will be confident, optimistic, at peace, and the little ups and downs of life will not be able to shake you and you will be able to create your life according to the vision that you have.
