Differences When Writing a Personal Vs. a Business Blog

Author: Helen Reimer

Blogging has become very popular over the last few years. Many are jumping on the blogging bandwagon and are able to earn a good income. If you are interested in getting started, you can set up a personal blog or a business blog. Even though both are similar and very successful in earning you a lot of money, there is a slight difference.

Personal Blog

It all began with personal blogs where people could express themselves freely. A personal blog is very casual in the sense that you do not need proper language and so on. This is your blog and you can personalize it as much as you like.

A personal blog revolves around personal topics of interest. These topics can be anything that is a part of your life, as well as your dreams. These topics can include your vacation, your favorite recipes, your hobbies, your achievements, failures, frustrations and excitements. Your readers are there to get to know you better, and thus it is okay to write about whatever it is that you enjoy in life.

But the great thing about personal blogs is that you can place relevant ads, such as Google Ads, or affiliate ads on your blog and make money by writing about your inner most passions in life.

Business Blogs

Business blogs are similar to personal blogs, only they are more targeted towards a particular topic. Thus if you run a business on computer software, you wouldn't blog about your favorite recipes, and so on.

A business blog basically helps you to keep your customers informed of upcoming events, sales, policy changes, or any other kind of business related news. This is where you can relate to your customers from a business perspective. If you have received questions from your customers, you can answer them publicly on your blog and so on.

Business blogs can also run ads such as Google Adsense or affiliate ads. However, if you are running a blog along side your business website, then you do not want to run ads, as you want to focus on selling your products or services.

The great thing is that both types of blogs are very easy to set up, and they both use the same blogging platforms or software. Therefore you can set up either one of these, and you do not have to have any special knowledge or experience regarding blogging, as you can learn as you go. However, it does help if you have some guidance on how to go about it.
