Twitter is a social media phenomenon online and as such presents the Internet marketing opportunity of a lifetime. This social media juggernaut is growing daily and it would be a huge mistake for your online home business to ignore this chance to advertise to millions of prospects by tweeting on a regular basis.

The main attraction of Twitter is the fact that you can send bite sized messages, less than 140 characters per message, instantly to your audience who can also reply immediately to your communication.

Most people don't have the time or patience to carry on a long winded conversation on the Web and this medium is the perfect forum for people on the go who want to get there message out quickly and on point.

However, as with any of the other social media outlets on the Internet there is a certain sense of decorum involved. People who are regular users take this outlet seriously and they have taken the time to create a sense of community with other members of this group.

This is one thing you must keep in mind when using Twitter to promote your home business opportunity because being too obvious with your intention may get you banned by the narrator of the conversation. After you join you should contribute something of value to the community on several occasions before thinking about advertising your website.

You should try to establish a relationship and a connection with the other members before any attempt at self promotion is made. The best approach is to keep people up to date about any news related to your theme or topic from which they can benefit and find useful in their own endeavors.

First and foremost you should provide good content via tweets about new product launches or special discounts and sales from which they can benefit or news about contests you may be running where members can win a prize and any market related announcements of note.

You should also take your account seriously by providing quality information in your profile about your history and about your home business's past and future prospects. This is a great way to establish a relationship with other members because once they feel they know you can trust you they will be more receptive of your messages.

Also try to help other members whenever you can by participating in the conversation. If anyone is having a problem with any aspect of their business and you have a solution to their dilemma announce it via a tweet.

If you're finding that no one is replying to your messages try to enter an ongoing conversation by adding something of value. This will, more often than not, get others involved with what you have to say if the topic is currently under consideration.

You should also tweet a message regularly. The general rule of thumb seems to be at least 3 times per day so you can be taken seriously by other members and become well known as a regular participant and not regarded as someone who's only participating occasionally so they can advertise their business.
