The 7 Keys to a Successful Video Website Marketing Strategy

A solid video website marketing strategy involves doing things with your videos to make them go viral. Your videos go viral when people start spreading them around the Internet with social bookmarking, Tweeting and Facebook sharing among other options available to interested surfers.

1. The more videos that I see in my day to day efforts to make a living online, the more I wish people would shorten them up! You can say a lot in a few minutes and people have short attention spans. The shorter the better if you want your videos spread around the world quickly. A series of short entertaining and informative viral videos can make your video website marketing strategy far more effective than a few long drawn out videos that lose people's attention in the first minute.

2. Remember you are branding yourself with everything you do online and you don't want to be the long winded boring guy. If you want to share more with people than you can convey in a couple of minutes, then link them to other content that expands upon the topic of your video. That way you get back links and other opportunities to impress and sell to your viewers.

3. I find that the more entertaining the video, the more likely I am to pay attention all the way to the end, so be aware of the tone of your videos, use humor and lay some music down in the background without drowning out the message. I have seen too many "instructional" videos that put you to sleep in a matter of seconds. Don't be afraid to be a little goofy and unique. The most popular videos on You Tube are either funny or controversial and they are all relatively short.

4. The opening of your video is like the headline of your articles and sales pages. You want to grab the viewers attention right away with some humor, something shocking, something that invokes curiosity or some sort of deep emotional feeling.

5. The real key to a great video website marketing strategy is to create your videos with the viewer in mind. What are they looking for online? How much time do they have? How many other video options are there for them to look at instead of yours?

6. People want to be engaged, thrilled, entertained and made to laugh. If you can inform them as well then you have a real winner. Along this line of thinking, which videos have you shared with other people before? Are you more likely to send long informational videos or short funny ones? The short funny ones are far more likely to go viral, particularly if they are also informative.

7. There is no sense in creating an effective set of videos for your video website marketing campaign and not taking advantage of their search engine optimization powers. Make sure you have a You Tube channel and include relevant links as well as calls to action with your videos. Tag your videos with related keywords and then be sure to share them using the Facebook, Twitter and other sharing options. Keep building your campaign with other related videos and embed the videos from your channel into your blogs or websites

I read a statistic the other day that really supports the idea of building a viral video website marketing strategy; as of January of this year, YouTube gets 2 BILLION video views PER DAY. Think of this kind of exposure on a daily basis and the likelihood that these numbers will only continue to get bigger.

Create some short, entertaining and informative videos, optimize them and share them and you are almost guaranteed they will go viral in a short period of time.
