But savvy marketers are finding strategies that take them above and beyond the competitive noise. Many find it necessary to spend more money, others spend more time.

Most marketers and owners have spent years with their products and services. So, many assume their prospects see the benefits as easy as they do. Big mistake.

In fact, with so many similar products and services on the market, they start to look the same.

For example, spend a day shopping for a product or service and soon most will look the same. You'll start to experience what I call "buyers blur".

Your prospects have the same issues when they see your product or service. Especially if you fail to distinguish the uniqueness of your product or service enough to your prospect.

So, it's your job to help them differentiate, distinguish and separate your product or service from the crowd of competition. Whoever does that best will win the prospect and the sale.

1. Give A Little Extra

With people and businesses looking for ways to cut back and downsize now. Guess what? That's good for you if you can find ways to add something extra to your product or service.

That's an instant way to stand out from the crowd. And the good news, the something extra doesn't have to cost a lot. You can add an extra free service, bonus or discount for buying a certain amount.

This idea stands limited only by your imagination. The important point to remember comes by remembering the little extra you give. That will help you stand out in your prospects mind.

2. Add a Personal Touch

We're living in a time when everyone is an account number, password or a user name. This presents an open door opportunity for the savvy marketer to stand out. How? By simply offering a personal touch .

For instance, simple actions like remembering something personal about a customer. For example, their name, birthday or giving them a personal gift that match their interest.

That's another idea limited only by your imagination and thoughtfulness.

In this new economy people not only pay for what's in a product -- but what's not in it. This can give you another opportunity to gain a customer.

The key comes from knowing what your customer would like "less" of. For example, most like no hassle, risk free, no fat, less sugar, chemical free, cholesterol free, etc. It all depends on your product, service or customer.

The competitive marketplace grows more crowded by the day. That's why having a strategy to differentiate your business, product or service from the crowd grows more important.
