Since the good old Google slap, people with an online home business have been trying new methods to gain traffic. The Google slap hurt a lot of businesses when they shut down their pay-per-click advertising.

Now people are going more towards social media and web-2.0. Their using articles, press releases, videos and social media sites to bring traffic to their website.

Using all these methods works great for your online home business, but it still does not help much for getting your website on page one with Google or Bing. This is where SEO comes in, SEO means search engine optimization.

A lot of people use companies to optimize their website. Some are reputable and some are not, you really have to do your due-diligence when searching for a good SEO company. If you are short on funds there are ways that you can do this yourself.

One: Keywords

Keywords should be the number one thing you concentrate on. You should have your keywords in your title, in your content and in your URL. The two most important place to put your keywords are in the page header and title tag. When thinking about your keywords, think about how you would search for something, most of the time this is how someone else would be searching for that term.

Two: Content

The search engines love fresh new content, upgrade your content regularly. One of the best ways to do this, is to attach a blog to your website. A blog gives your website a more personal touch, plus you can write a post everyday making it have fresh content. You can have a lot more pages in a blog than with just a website. Your pages can have a place to find out more about you and people can relate to you more.

Three: Create Links

With having a blog attached to your website you can start creating inbound and outbound links. Inbound links is where you write a post and put a link to another page within your blog. An outbound link is where you have a link in your post to someone else's blog. By doing this you will create backlinks to your blog which the search engines love.

Four: Use Social Media

Use social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Better Networker and Self Growth to get your blog known. Get on these social media sites, set up a great profile and start interacting with other people. Never promote your business unless they ask. Social media works by sharing your content with them and creating a repore, then wait for them to ask you what you do for a living.

Five: Track Your Results

If you do not track your results, you will not know where your traffic is coming from. If you do not know where your traffic is coming from, how will you know where to focus most of your time? It is very important to know where your traffic is coming from so that you can continue focusing on that and bring in more leads. You can do this by using Google tool bar and Alexa.

These are just a few of the SEO methods you can use that will not cost you any money. There are a lot of books our there for search engine optimization that you may want to read also. You can even do a Google search for SEO, there are a lot of articles and videos on the subject.

The most important thing, is to start implementing these methods now. The sooner you do, the sooner your website will be on page one of Google and the more traffic you will be generating for your online home business.
