List Building - What is a list and how do you build one quickly?

Let us look at a few issues:

1. What is a list?

An email list is a database of the information of people who comes to your site, opts in because you might have something that can solve a problem for them on a certain subject that they don't know and would like to find out about some more! It might be someone who has a weight problem, and you are a fitness expert offering a training course on how to develop your abs better etc. These people who opts in become your list.

2.How do you build a list?

Well building a list can be done in many ways such as:

a.Offering a special report on a pop-up page that comes up as soon as a person visits your website. This report can only be downloaded once this person gives you their name and email address.

b. You can create a video on you-tube talking about a specific problem that you address, and at the end of it, if they want some more info they click on a link where they get directed to your website where they can opt in.

c.Writing articles and posting them to different article websites where people can read them and click on a link that will ask them for a name and email address so that you can send more information to them.

d.Setting up auto responders.

e.Viral marketing.

f.Giving away something for free etc.

3.Why do you build a list?

The reason why you want to build a list is to market to them and help them with issues or solve problems for them so that they keep coming back for more and telling other people about you. Ultimately you don't want an email list but a list of fans. The same way that a rock band will have fans. These loyal fans will buy anything you offer them, if it is not crap of course. So in short, it is to make money and also to add value to other people's lives!

4. Is it worthwhile to have and grow a list?

It is not just worthwhile, but a must to have and to grow an email list. Your email list is directly linked to your bank account. If you have a decent list and send people information they can use that will help them get what they want then you will be a very happy person, so will be your bank account. So the time and effort you will put into getting and growing your list, will pay off big time! The sooner you get started the better.

5. Different Lists for different markets.

It is important in my humble opinion that you need to market to different lists in different markets. Say for instance you want to market a copy writing product to people wanting to write copy for their website then you market to the customers on the list you have that will fall into the category of internet marketing. In this e-mail list you might have 1000 names and email addresses and you have another list that wants information on "How to train your dog" of 500 people. You cannot market the copy writing product to the dog training list for it will not work and only frustrate those customers of you. You will start losing them. So, market relevant products only to relevant markets. Another important point is not to BS people and think they won't see through you, they will. If you are honest and adding value to and helping the person you are marketing to, to get what they want, building your list will take care of itself. So the ultimate benefit to you when doing this is that your email list will grow and your customers will become fans of yours. This in turn will cause them to refer you or your site to other people looking for similar products, so your bank account will also grow!

When I started implementing these steps, especially thinking about what my customers wanted instead of the money I wanted, it started paying off.

If I could build a list this way, then so can you!
