List Building Techniques for Marketing on the Internet

Of all the aspects involved with Web Internet marketing, the most important is building a list. On average, the value of a list is about $1 per subscriber per month. Some quality lists can be valued much higher, depending on the marketer's ability to develop a relationship with his subscribers. These fundamentals are not just for those in the Internet marketing niche, but apply equally or even better to most any niche market where products or services are sold online. As more and more people turn to the Internet for their primary source of information, the value of a good marketing list will continue to increase.

The key elements of list building are as follows:

* Domain Name and Hosting - A domain and hosting account are critical, although Facebook fan pages or even YouTube channels can be a substitute, e.g., facebook.com/f150 and youtube.com/ibm. * Squeeze or Sales Page -- Although most marketers still use a long sales letter, the use of an adequate length video is effective in some niches. * Commercial Autoresponder -- Free alternatives such as CGI scripts are available, but most serious marketers see the value of investing in professional services for several reasons. Not only are services such as Aweber very affordable at under $20 per month, but they will ensure that your email and IP address doesn't become black-listed. * Free Offer or Paid Offer -- $1 trial offers are very common in the affiliate world. When building a list, most marketers use a free PDF report that contains some of their best content.

Streaming, or expanding the sales funnel by developing affiliate and joint venture partners is often overlooked. One of the best examples, is leading Internet marketing trainer Mike Cowles, who immediately introduces his affiliate program to his list subscribers and customers. The video begins the process of creating a relationship with subscribers on his list.

There are many obvious advantages to having a quality, responsive list, but one of the biggest advantages of having a list in the first place is leverage. The larger your list, the more leverage you have. When teaming in joint marketing ventures, list size becomes the critical factor in even having a possibility of a relationship. Don't you know the first question they'll ask you is how big is your list?

But, list quality is also highly important. The "golden rule" is to always treat others, including those on your marketing list, like you'd like to be treated. This will be your key to having a high quality list. Follow-up promptly, over-deliver valuable content and your list members will appreciate and trust you, eventually becoming raving fans, and turning into profits much higher than "standard" $1 per month when marketing on the Internet.
