Business is all about the bottom line. If you're business is not making money then you better be making some adjustments or consider the possibility of going out of business.

Whether you're marketing on the internet or in the corporate world offline, everything comes down to how much money you're making.

One of the biggest obstacles
One of the biggest obstacles and pitfalls of many internet marketers is not knowing what their strengths and weaknesses are and how to assess them properly.

For instance, if you know how to build a website, but it takes you three hours to do it, is that a strength or a weakness?

To make it easier to figure this out, why not put a dollar amount on your time. How much is your time worth to you? $10 an hour, $20 an hour, $30 an hour?

Now if it takes you three hours to put together a basic website and your time is worth $30 an hour, you've just cost yourself $90. So the next question is: "how often are you doing this?"

Are good at writing but lousy at web design? Why not hire someone else to build the website while you generate the content.

The black hole of traffic generation
That's just one area that you can consider. I know that a major time suck for most people is traffic generation. There are so many ways to get traffic to a website, but not every way will produce the kind of visitors that will increase your bottom line.

So why not hire someone else to take care of the traffic generation while you focus on what it is you're good at.

However there is a more important area that needs to be addressed if you want to have any shot at producing real income from your internet business and that involves the market you've chosen to target.

Are you able to compete in the marketplace?
Often times one of the easiest ways to start seeing a profit in your online business is to target a market that not only has a ton of buyers in it, but that doesn't have too many heavy hitters in it.

This doesn't mean that you can't target super popular markets, but if you're in the developmental stages of your internet business you might want to consider starting in a market that won't take you years to make a dent in.

If you're targeting the 'make money online' market, are you prepared to put in the work that it will take to compete amongst some of the bigger names in that market?

That's just one example, but I think that you get the idea. So take a moment to sit down and seriously consider what you're strengths and weaknesses are and commit to sticking to those and letting others take care of the more menial or difficult tasks.

If you want to make money online then keeping a close eye on your bottom line should be your most important concern. Hopefully this article has given you some insight as to how to do that.
