Home Business Blog - Choose Free WordPress Or Hosted WordPress?

If you want to build a home business blog, you must first choose a blogging platform. The most popular one is WordPress, but there are two versions, one free and one hosted. Which one is best for you?

WordPress.com Offers Free Hosting

Much like blogger, where your blog is yourblogname.blogspot.com, WordPress.com is free. They take care of hosting and updating the blog software. You just provide all the content. Trouble is, free hosting has limitations.

You can't make your blog look unique. You're limited to about 90 templates for the basic look and you can't change them much without paying for an upgrade.

You can't check your stats beyond a couple days. Want to know about your traffic, which posts are most popular, or track your growth? Too bad.

It's tougher to brand your name when your blog name is yourblogname.wordpress.com instead of yourblogname.com.

Worst of all, your data can be lost forever.

Imagine posting like crazy every day for three years, with photos, videos, podcasts and links galore. Imagine you log in one day--and it's all gone. No trace of it can be found.

With a free hosting service, that can happen, sometimes by accident when servers have a glitch, sometimes on purpose when the host changes what it allows. Too bad they don't warn you. Yow!

WordPress.org Offers Complete Control

You buy your own domain name, pay for hosting, and install WordPress for free on your site. Your domain name can contain the keyword phrase of your choice for your niche.

If you use a hosting service like BlueHost.com, you can install WordPress with the push of a couple buttons. You choose a theme out of a staggering array of free or paid themes, then customize it as you please.

Now you have your own name, your own unique look, and you can brand yourself and your business name all over the Internet. The only limits in your campaigns for commerce are your time, energy and imagination. It's a real business.

There's a plugin to backup your blog automatically so you never lose your data. In fact, there are WordPress plugins to help you do just about anything you can imagine.

With a hosted WordPress blog, you can "have it your way." Start posting, provide information, establish yourself as an expert, solve problems for customers, and make money on your own home business blog.
