Door To Door Lead Generation by Derek Gray Copyright (c) 2011 Derek Gray There are a lot of jobs out there that brag that you will not be selling anything. Your job is to generate leads. This requires you to go door to door to either local businesses or individuals and get them interested in the product or service you represent. This requires explaining the service and giving them some marketing material such as a brochure or a flier. I personally think that this is no way to market a service or product because you're a door to door sales person no matter if you are closing the deal or not. Many companies have "no solicitation" signs on their door. This means even if you walk in to give them literature on whatever company you represent, they'll tell you to leave. You are still considered a sales person to them, so the no-solicitation sign applies to you. If you knock on a persons door to offer a product or service to them you will be seen as a sales person and most likely they will not be interested. I know if a door to door sales person comes knocking on my door, I just do not answer. If you're working with a company that tells you to go to local businesses that you are frequently at and hand them some marketing material, think about it first. What if they buy the product or service you are offering and they aren't impressed with it? How will that affect your future relationship with this business? Are they giving you any special deals for being a frequent customer? I can almost guarantee you that if you sell them something they aren't impressed with those special deals will go away. I have heard companies telling you to go back several weeks later and give them the same pitch and marketing material. They say that the businesses you are going to will get to know you so they'll be more likely to buy. What will happen is you will just becoming a pest. This means every time you go into this business even if it is to buy something and not hand out the marketing material the employees will hate that you are there. They'll always think that you are just in there trying to sell them something. A lot of these companies want you to pitch to your friends and family. I think that this is uncalled for. If you do that, your friends and family will dread hearing from you. The worst part is, what happens if they are not impressed with the product or service that they purchased? I've heard a lot of people say that they have lost friends and have had family members stop talking to them because of something they sold them. I think that door to door lead generating is not a good idea. Some people are willing to do it but many are not willing to. I think that to lead generate you should have people contact you first. Internet marketing is the key to lead generation in my opinion. You can also contact people via telephone as well. I would not recommend selling to people who you have a personal relationship with though. Even if the product or service is a really good thing there will always be people who don't like it.
