You already know that establishing and maintaining a business blog is the quintessential move for 21st century online marketing. To maintain a successful business blog, your blog marketing strategy must include specific content to keep your blog fresh and your audience growing. Try including these topics in your business blog:

Topic 1: Frequently Asked Questions

Your blog will naturally receive questions from visitors regarding your information and your product(s). Be prepared to provide answers for some of the most common questions for any online business blog:

  • What Is It? Let your audience know what it is you are marketing with short yet specific descriptions. With the right delivery, your audience will not only express an increased interest in your product or service, they will likely pass on their interests to their social network contacts.

  • How Much Does It Cost? Whether a product or a service, the number one question on every one's mind in today's economy is how much they will have to spend. By breaking down the cost for your customers, they will understand where their money is going and why.

  • How Do I Get It? Sometimes getting what you want is not always as easy as it seems. For those who are having difficulty finding or purchasing your product or service, you can address existing problems and hopefully prevent future ones.

Let your customers know you care what they think. Give them an outlet to ask you questions and stay on top of those that often recur.

Topic 2: Developments

As a small business marketer, you are always looking for ways to improve and expand your business. Include the following in your blog to keep your customers up-to-date on your business:

  • Additional services. Your business blog is the perfect place to notify interested parties in any expansion of products and services you have experience as a small business marketer.

  • Product improvements. As your product changes and/or improves, let your customers know about it. Your customer base has a greater chance of growing with the growth of your business.

  • Reviews. A pat on the back never hurt anyone. If you have received critical acclaim, include it in your blog with a link (if possible) to the source.

Your products and services are the meat and potatoes of your business. By utilizing your business blog for promoting changes and improvements, you are taking advantage of the low-cost advertising you as a small business marketer need to keep your focus on making money rather than spending it.

Topic 3: Announcements

Your blog marketing site is the ideal location to place announcements of all types. A regular schedule of announcements will create in your audience a habit of expecting news from the home front.

  • Web casts. Any time you want to broaden your horizons, take part in a web cast and tell your audience about it. You may decide to play host, or simply provide a venue for your audience to participate.

  • New product line. New and improved is not so useful if no one knows it is new and improved. Use the design tools available on your blog site and accentuate the newness and improvements of your products and services to get the attention of your visitors.

  • Staff changes. Every now and again we decide to make changes to the people we have on staff. Your visitors deserve to know who the brains behind your business are. Let your customers know when a rising star has joined your group of budding entrepreneurs.

No matter how large or how small, announcements that relate to your business are fair game for blog content. Your site visitors and RSS feed subscribers will appreciate being kept in the know of all that is happening with you and your business.

Topic 4: Market News

As the latest events in the global economy tell us, knowing what is happening within the market as it relates to your business is of likely interest to your customers and subscribers.

  • Costs. Are they rising or falling? This is a no-brainer that needs no further explanation.

  • Availability. How is the condition of the market affecting product and service availability?

  • Competition. Is the competition increasing or decreasing? And how will that affect your customers?

Topic 5: Videos/Photos

Cut your visitors a break and let them watch what you have to say rather than read what you have to say.

  • Weekly web address. Be a big shot. Sit behind your desk and brief your audience on the week's events as they relate to your business.

  • Product slide show. Offer visual support for your products and services. Maybe a picture can be worth a thousand customers.

  • Customer testimonials. Encourage customers to provide video and/or photos of their experiences with your product or service.

Whether you use WordPress, Blogger, WetPaint, or Weebly, your business blog should contain relevant content that is of quality and value to your specific customer base.
