Affiliate marketing has been around a long time. Though it may have been around for a while, many new to internet marketing do not have a clue what it is all about. In my case, I stumbled upon it by accident. After being scammed several times, I felt like giving up, until someone suggested that I try my hand at affiliate marketing.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

The simplest definition for affiliate marketing is that it is a way to make money online. You are the seller of a product or service that a company wants you to promote. When an individual buys the product or service through your link, you will get a commission. That commission will vary, depending upon the type of product being sold. For example, you will find that software products will garner a commission between 20% and 30%, while a major product like a computer may receive a commission of only 2 percent. Why? Cost. Though 2 percent many seem small it's not, especially if the price of the computer is $500 on up.
Is there benefits for advertisers and publishers with this type of vehicle to make money. Yes. Let's look first at the advertiser.

Benefits for the Advertisers

Advertisers find that by having many affiliates advertising their products, they get more exposure for their products and services. But most importantly, they only have to pay the affiliate when they make a sale. Do you see the benefit?

Benefits for the Publisher

Publishers like affiliate programs, because it gives them another avenue to make money on their website or blog, without creating their own product. However, publishers have to realize that the product or service have to match the niche they are advertising within their blog or website, or people will not give the affiliate link or banner a closer look.

Does Affiliate Marketing Offer Easy Money

Is this form of marketing offer you an opportunity to make easy money? Sorry, no. There are a lot of factors that play into making a great deal of money with affiliate marketing. Some of these elements are: traffic, the quality of the product, product that is relevant to the niche, whether you can create trust with the individuals who come to your site, and writing good sales copy, just to name a few.

Here's another factor you need to consider. Not all websites or blogs work well with affiliate programs. Thus, if your aim is to use affiliate marketing as part of your method of making money online, you need a niche where you can easily find products to promote.

If I have not scared you off yet, then give affiliate marketing a try. It can be a great business if you take the time to learn your craft as you build your business.
