What are average AdSense earnings and why is it important to know? Average AdSense earnings are notoriously difficult to estimate due to the fact that one of Google's rules vigorously discourages the publishing of revenue related material. But we can actually work an approximate figure based on average Cost-Per-Clicks (CPC), average traffic levels and average Click-Through-Rates (CTR).

The latest estimates claim that the average pay out per click on an AdSense ad is about $0.50. Which on reflection doesn't seem like much money. But the essence of Google's pay per click scheme is the monetization of traffic. It's all about the number of visitors that pass through your website. The more people that you have passing through the more money you're likely to make with the scheme. So if you have a substantial amount of people passing through your website you can potentially make a lot of AdSense cash.

An average successful AdSense website gets approximately 100-200 visitors a day. However, not all the people passing through a site will click on the ads displayed on it. It is estimated that on average people will click on ads on a decently optimized AdSense website 2-5 per cent of the time. Some extremely well optimized AdSense friendly websites can get Click-Through-Rates (CTR) of more than 10% but these instances are relatively uncommon.

So if we gather these figures together, we can get a very rough value for how much an average AdSense earns per site. An average AdSense website earns about $5.00 a day (based on a CTR of 5%).

Of course some AdSense websites earn much, much, more, but we also have to remember that a lot more websites earn much less. However, if we accept this value for the average AdSense earnings per website, what is the average AdSense earnings per AdSense publisher?

Now, this value is harder to estimate. The number of websites owned by different webmasters differ from just a single website to hundreds. The more successful webmasters normally own a number of quality AdSense websites.

A single average performing website could earn you approximately $140.00 a month. But if you happened to own 20 websites of a similar ilk you could earn something in the region of $2800.00 a month.

As you can see, it is important as an AdSense publisher to have an understanding of average AdSense earnings. It helps put your AdSense project into perspective and can help motivate you towards creating a number of well performing websites which you can use to maximise your overall AdSense earnings.
